3-6 February 2010 -- New York City, USA

Conference Venue

The main conference will be held in the Pfizer Auditorium on the campus of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU:Poly) from Thursday, February 4, to Saturday, February 6, 2010. The SSM Workshop will be held on February 3, 2010, in room LC400 on the 4th floor of the same building.

The NYU:Poly campus is located in downtown Brooklyn, close to the Brooklyn Bridge and a 10-minute subway ride from Lower Manhattan. The two main conference hotels are within 3 (Mariott) and 12 (Nu Hotel) minutes of walking from the venue. There are of course multiple other hotels in Brooklyn and Manhattan that are conveniently reachable.

About New York City

New York offers a multitude major sights and cultural attractions ranging from Museums to life performance to shopping and dining. More information can be found on the official NYC visitor site at www.nyc.gov/visitors. Average temperatures in February are around 40 degree Fahrenheit (about 3 degrees Celsius). While we may see some sunny days, there is also the chance of ice and snow, and attendees are advised to bring warm winter clothing.

About the Neighborhood

The campus is in a high-rise area called Metrotech Center, and within walking distance of many of the major subway lines. The closest subway station is the Jay Street / MetroTech station, which serves the A, C, and F lines connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. Other close-by stations are (in this order) the Lawrence/Metrotech Station of the R and M lines, the Borough Hall station of the 2, 3, 4, 5, M, and R lines, and the DeKalb station of the B, Q, W, R, and M lines.

While the campus area offers fairly basic food options, a large number of better restaurants are within walking distance along Smith Street (Carroll Gardens) and Montague Street (in Brooklyn Heights). The area around campus (as well as most areas in Brooklyn) is considered safe to walk at any time.

About the Campus and Facilities

The NYU:Poly campus itself consists of just a few buildings on one side of the Metrotech Center plaza. The Pfizer Auditorium is in the CATT/Dibner Library building (on the right of the photo) while lunch breaks will be held in the adjacent main building (Rogers Hall) on the left. Wireless networking and (limited) power will be provided in the facilities.

About NYU:Poly

The Polytechnic Institute of NYU, formerly known as Polytechnic University or Brooklyn Poly, is now affiliated with New York University (NYU) as the result of merger proceedings initiated in 2008. NYU:Poly is expected to evolve into a new School of Engineering and Technology at NYU over the next few years.
