WSDM Day
All deadlines are 11:59 pm anywhere on earth.
Since the establishment of the Lower Saxony Center for AI & Causal Methods in Medicine (CAIMed) in November 2023, Hannover has become one of the hubs of precision medicine. This year, the WSDM Day will be held on March 14th, 2025, aiming to promote WSDM-aligned topics relevant to medicine and discuss the “State of Data Mining & Web Search in Medicine”.
The organizing committee invites submissions for oral/poster presentation on topics aligned with those set forth in the call for papers of the main conference, focusing on issues relevant to medicine. We welcome all submissions related to, but not limited to, the following topics:
Query Understanding and Formulation
- Identifying and extracting medical concepts and entities from user queries
- Mapping queries to standard medical terminologies and ontologies
- Query reformulation and expansion using medical knowledge bases
- Protecting user privacy while searching for sensitive medical information
Ranking and Result Filtering
- Developing ranking models tailored for medical information needs
- Filtering and re-ranking results based on quality, credibility, and trustworthiness signals
- Reliability assessment to identify and filter out misinformation and low-quality sources
- Trustworthiness assessment methods to evaluate the quality of medical information on the web
- Personalization of user expertise, profile, history, and preferences
- Adaptive and context-aware search systems that consider user context and search intent
Medical Knowledge Integration
- Integrating evidence from medical literature databases like PubMed/MEDLINE
- Leveraging structured medical knowledge sources like disease ontologies
- Combining unstructured web content with authoritative medical knowledge
- Integrating web search with clinical decision support systems
- Linking medical search with other health information systems, such as telemedicine platforms, patient portals, and health apps
Data and Models in Medical Machine Learning
- Leveraging big data and machine learning to improve search relevance and accuracy
- Addressing bias and fairness in medical machine learning
- Interpretability and causality in medical machine learning
- Heterogenous, multilingual, and cross-cultural learning
- Foundation models for medical domain
User Interaction and Interfaces
- Designing search interfaces tailored for medical information needs
- Supporting exploratory search behaviors common in medical search
- Visualizing and summarizing medical search results effectively
- Designing search interfaces that cater to users with varying levels of health literacy
Evaluation and Benchmarking
- Proposing new open medical datasets
- Developing test collections, queries, and relevance judgments for medical search
- Defining evaluation measures capturing medical domain requirements
- Studying real-world medical search behavior through log analysis
Submission Guidelines
Submissions are invited in the form of 4-page papers (with an additional one page for references) or a 2-page abstract for poster and demonstration proposals. All submissions must adhere to the formatting requirements specified in the conference’s author guidelines, available at https://www.wsdm-conference.org/2025/call-for-papers/. The PDF files must have all non-standard fonts embedded. Submissions must be self-contained and in English. Submissions will be reviewed in a single-blind manner by at least two reviewers, and must include all authors’ names and affiliations. Papers that fail to adhere to the submission guidelines or fall outside the scope of relevant topics will be rejected without review. The papers will go through a peer reviewed process and the accepted papers would be presented as an oral or poster presentation during the WSDM Day. Accepted papers will be featured in the WSDM Day program and included in the conference proceedings with the ACM Digital Library, with a strict 2-page limit for all content.
Dual-submission policy:
We welcome ongoing and unpublished work. We also welcome papers that are under review at the time of submission.
Presentation:
The presentation format will include short oral presentations (e.g., talks ranging from 10 to 15 minutes) and poster session. At least one author of each accepted presentation must register in the conference and be able to present
the work during WSDM Day 2025.
We look forward to your submissions and participation in this exciting event!
